Animatex Animation Festival commissioned me, alongside Mayar Salama and Bassant Ahmed, to curate a special Exhibition marking 90 years of Egyptian animation. The event took place at The American University in Cairo’s Tahrir campus, within Future Gallery.
My background: Animation
Mayar Salama: Architecture and comics
Bassant Ahmed: Graphic design, illustration, and comics
I made some doodle mockups to begin mapping and visualizing the distinct. These preliminary studies serve not only as compositional guides but as a way of engaging with the spatial logic of the Gallery.
Mayar Salama cleaned up the mockup into the final plan

Final mockups with the actual artworks of the featured artists: the Frankel Brothers, the Moheeb Brothers, and Ehab Shaker.
We visited the artists’ archives at AUC New Cairo and at Cimatheque Alternative Film Centre to gather material. We were concerned about preserving the original works, so we digitized over 200 images to avoid handling the fragile pieces repeatedly. This allowed us to clean and restore the visuals digitally, rescale them, and adapt them for various printed formats, including acrylic and textile.
